This coloring book is a tribute to the remarkable art of my late husband, Ron Morley—a gifted artist and perfectionist whose works capture the metamorphosis of life. Ron’s drawings, inspired by the Grateful Dead, were a blend of intricate patterns and relatable themes, reflecting his keen eye for detail and boundless creativity.
By trade, Ron was a professional painter. Every line he created, whether on walls or paper, was precise and intentional. If he felt a drawing wasn’t perfect, he’d start anew, refining it until it met his high standards. The cover artwork, “Passion Maker,” is a poignant example—it was retraced three times yet remained incomplete during his lifetime, a gift he lovingly dedicated to me.
The idea for this book emerged during Ron’s celebration of life in 2013. Family and friends suggested we share his art as coloring pages, creating an atmosphere of joy and inspiration reminiscent of Ron’s fun-loving spirit. The day held even more magic as it coincided with Jerry Garcia’s birthday and the release of Sunshine Daydream, a Grateful Dead film, adding a serendipitous connection to Ron’s lifelong passion for the band.
Over the past decade, I’ve worked to scan, restore, and preserve these drawings, ensuring they’re ready to share with the world. Some pieces were unfinished, but I’ve lovingly polished them while honoring Ron’s meticulous style. This book also symbolizes a dream Ron and I shared—to collaborate on art. Although life’s challenges kept us from fully realizing this dream, I’ve incorporated his art into my glasswork and vinyl designs, continuing his legacy.
As a special touch, the final page of this book features Ron’s unfinished drawing, Passion Maker. We invite you to add your own creativity to complete this piece, continuing Ron’s artistic journey in your own way.
As we continue to navigate life without Ron, this book serves as both a tribute to his incredible talent and a means of supporting our family. We hope it provides peace and inspiration while honoring his remarkable journey.
*A bittersweet story was shared at the end of all of Phil Lesh's Concerts. (Bass player of the Grateful Dead). He would tell us about the young boy, Codey that saved his life. Codey was a donor. He died young and Phil Lesh received a donation of a Liver to save his life. After Phil telling that story at the All Good Music Festival in 2012, Ron was able to tell me that he wanted to be an organ donor. As Phil said, "All you have to do is look at someone you Love and tell them that you want to be an organ donor." Ron looked at me and said, "Honey, I want to be an organ donor." 1 year later (almost to the day) Ron left this planet. He was a donor. Ron saved 5 lives and gave the gift of sight. 8/27/1970-7/27/2013
